This question was raised immediately after the outbreak of coronavirus in Bangladesh. The demand for sanitizers increased in the market. In many cases, the price of sanitizer was increased, and in some places, this disinfectant was not even available. Many people believed that it was possible to remove hand germs only through sanitizer.
But this idea is completely wrong. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), washing hands with soap is more effective than disinfecting hands. However, where there is no soap and water available, sanitizer can be used. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has provided similar information.
One of the world’s best health organizations says that sanitizer does not free hands from all types of germs. Sanitizer may not be as effective if there is visible dirt or oil/fat on the hands. Besides, sanitizers cannot remove harmful chemicals like pesticides and heavy metals from the hands. Although alcohol-based hand sanitizer kills the coronavirus, it does not eliminate all types of bacteria and viruses. However, in all these cases, soap is effective in killing germs.
With so much discussion about soap, do you feel like sanitizer doesn’t protect you at all? Not at all. Researchers say soap is more effective. We discussed that soap or hand washing is easily available in Bangladesh. Scientists have said to use sanitizer where there is no option to wash hands with soap or hand wash. Scientists say that rubbing a few drops of sanitizer on the palm also kills the virus.
