UNICEF, a partner agency of the United Nations, has given several tips on handwashing to combat COVID-19. They say you must wash your hands after doing the following:
- After blowing your nose, sneezing and coughing.
- After visiting public places like transport, markets or places of worship.
- Touching anything in the house, outside, even after holding the money.
- Before, during and after taking a sick person from one place to another.
- Before and after eating.
Researchers say soap is more effective in preventing corona. Where there is no option to wash hands with soap or hand wash, sanitizer should be used. Scientists say rubbing a few drops of sanitizer on the palm of your hand kills the virus.
Hand Washing procedure:
There is a difference between simple hand washing and washing your hands to protect yourself from the virus. You may not be protected from the virus if you wash it immediately after rubbing soap or hand wash with your hands. UNICEF has suggested some ways in this regard. They are-
Step 1: Wet your hands with running water.
Step 2: Apply soap all over your wet hands.
Step 3: Rub the front and back of the hand, between the fingers and the bottom of the nails for at least 20 seconds.
Step 4: Wash your hands thoroughly with running water.
Step 5: Wipe your hands with a clean cloth or a single-use towel.
So whether it is soap, hand wash or sanitizer – follow this hygiene to keep yourself and others safe.
