Headaches are common to all people, so in most cases it is not considered a serious disease.
Reasons for headache:
If you don’t get time to rest from the pressure of work at home and outside, the pressure from stress falls on the eyes and head. Many people suffer from headaches.
Migraine is a common cause of headache. Many people suffer from headaches due to migraines.
Many people suffer from headaches due to excess tension. Studies have shown that about 70 percent of headaches are tension-type headaches.
Apart from this, smoking, drinking, drug addiction, irregular and excessive use of sleeping pills, sun or excessively hot weather, excessive physical and mental exertion, being hungry, mental stress etc. are causes of headache.
Types of Headache:
The World Headache Society divides headaches into two categories.
Primary headache: About 90 percent of headaches are primary headaches. These do not indicate any serious disease.
Secondary Headache: It indicates a serious disease of the head, neck or any other part of the body.
Apart from this there are more like,
- The most common headache is tension-type headache. These headaches are all over the head and are not very intense but they are constant.
- The second type of headache is migraine. Females suffer from it more than males. Usually, the pain is felt on one side of the head. It is not a needle pin like T.T.H. (Tension Type Headache) but a continuous pain that gets more painfully intensified slowly with time.
- Pain that usually occurs along the eyes is called a cluster headache. In cluster headaches, the eyes get red and watery, and the vision is slightly disturbed. It happens at a specific time during the day and night and lasts for a certain time, so it is called a cluster headache.
- There are small hollow spaces in the bones on both sides of the nose and in the forehead. These are called sinuses. If the lining of these sinuses inside the bone becomes inflamed, wind and cold coagulate. This results in severe pain along the sinuses. This is sinusitis pain known as sinus headache.
- A throbbing headache occurring every day of the month is called chronic daily headache.
- Apart from this, women often get headaches due to the hormonal changes in their bodies. This is called a hormonal headache. This pain is usually caused by the decrease in estrogen hormone during or before menstruation. Moreover, headaches occur during pregnancy and due to hormonal changes.
Symptoms of a bad headache:
In most cases, headaches are not serious illnesses. However, there are some headaches that are said to be symptoms or indicators of some serious diseases.
- Any headache that occurs for the first time at age 50 or older.
- Since the first occurrence of the headache, the occurrences and intensity of the pains have increased significantly day by day. In addition to brain tumors, TB can present as meningitis, sarcoidosis, lymphoma, or other cancerous diseases or metastases.
- Heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes or blood vessel problems—sudden severe headache in such patients indicates stroke, sub-arachnoid hemorrhage, etc.
- Headache accompanied by incoherence in behavior, movement or speech leading to fainting.
- Symptoms to watch out for when you have a headache are double vision or seeing something twice, vomiting, watery eyes, fever or excessive sweating, slurred speech, feeling tired, pain that doesn’t go away after taking painkillers, 72 hours. In between the onset of headaches etc.
What to do to reduce headache:
Various painkillers such as paracetamol can be taken to get immediate relief from headaches. Painkillers must be taken with anti-peptic ulcer medications. However, it is better not to take painkillers frequently unless necessary.
- Drink enough water, never on an empty stomach. Take a break from the mobile or computer screen at regular intervals. Do light exercise.
- If you massage the two sides of the vein and the neck for a while with your fingertips, you will get relief, and fatigue will disappear. This massage is very beneficial if you have a headache due to fatigue.
- Excessive light often causes headaches. So if you have a headache, reduce the light in the room.
- In case of severe headache and unbearable pain, consult a doctor immediately.
