KNOWLEDGE ITSELF IS POWER

When Sir Francis Bacon (1561 – 1626, English philosopher developed the idea that ) published in his work, Meditationes Sacrae (1597), the saying: “knowledge itself is power“, he most likely wanted to transmit the idea that having and sharing knowledge is the cornerstone of reputation and influence, and therefore power; all achievements emanate from this. Today, scientific knowledge is shared through publications that not only to inform,  but have the capacity to influence decision making.

Difference between – information – education and knowledge

  • Information is created when data are processed, organized, or structured to provide a context and has a meaning. While Information is something meaningful for communication ( may or may not verified), education is systematic learning; and   knowledge is what we know, evidence based.
  • Education refers to the process of learning and acquiring knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes through formal instruction, training, and schooling. On the other hand, knowledge refers to the facts, information, and skills acquired through experience, observation, and learning. Knowledge is evidence based.

Education is systematic learning something that we learn from our schools, colleges, or any other academic pursuit, whereas, knowledge can be learned and also earned throughout life. We can learn and earn knowledge from various ways like learning, observing, experiencing, practicing.  Scientifically harvested results obtained through research and studies which are evidence based (analyzed data and collected information).  Most of the time knowledge is earned by a person through his own life experiences.
